

Our Story
Jim Bennison was an art teacher with a great passion for sport and while working at Brinnington Secondary School was introduced to basketball via a training course.
He founded a basketball club at the school in 1963. The school had a small gym located on Lapwing Lane, Brinnington and Stockport Basketball Club, originally known as Brinnington Lapwings, was formed and ran from there for many years.
Jim was involved with Brinnington, which went on to become Stockport Louvolites, then Stockport Lapwings and finally the present day Stockport Basketball Club. The Louvolites women’s team won a number of Division One League titles and Cup Finals.

To promote and teach the sport of basketball, developing players, coaches and game officials to their highest potential in a positive environment, while encouraging discipline, commitment, and integrity both on and off the court.

Our vision is to provide the best possible opportunities for children and young adults to develop to the very best they an be as an athlete and a person. We want to foster a dynamic and inclusive environment where athletes of all skill levels can thrive We aim to cultivate not only exceptional players but strong leaders and a sense of community through teamwork sportsmanship. Together, we will work towards achieving excellence on and off the court, inspiring a lifelong passion for the game.


Our Goal
To build from the ground up, an inclusive Basketball Club that sponsors all levels of play.
To encourage the development a Basketball family ethos, providing the warmest welcome to new players and providing mentoring support for all.
To highly value volunteerism, fostering positive growth of the game and providing support of every club member both on and off the field.
To dedicate ourselves to the creation of an amateur basketball organisation with the highest quality coaching staff with passionate and engaged members who will support its growth.
To develop successful basketball teams that have a solid club identity and access for our players to Basketball England’s Developmental Pathway
